I sold two of my prints at the Linden Postcard show, held every year at Linden Gallery in St Kilda. It's the first time I've sold any of my works and to find out that I'd sold both pieces I'd entered was such a great feeling. I wanted to remove the little red dots next to the works and take them home as memento but apparently it's frowned upon.
Here is an image of one of the prints I sold. I don't have a photo of the other one, I really didn't think I'd ever sell it so I never bothered taking a photo of it. I think I'll now go and take photos of all the work I've done to date! Just in case.

Swoon
I went to Swoon's exhibition opening at Metro Gallery last week. I discovered Swoon mid last year while I was searching the bookshelves in the NGV gift shop and have been desperate to see her work in the flesh since that discovery. I didn't think I'd get to view her work here in Melbourne and I definitely didn't think I'd ever view it in a gallery. Swoon is known for her street art and I've hoped she would visit the streets of Melbourne. I now hope she doesn't leave here without decorating our streets with her beautiful work.
Here are some images of her work displayed at Metro Gallery...

Scribble
I went to the Heide Museum of Modern Art not long ago. They have a drawing exhibition on at the moment, Freehand: Recent Australian Drawing. I've put a few images in here of some of the works I like.

Unexpected Surprises
My boyfriend and I returned from Costa Rica a week ago. Before we left I was frantically trying to fill out forms for art awards and exhibitions that would be due while we were away. I was working two jobs so all the work for the entries was being done when I got home at 2am or on my lunch breaks; just getting the applications sent in was an achievement in itself. The day we got back I checked the mail and found a letter informing me I had been shortlisted for an exhibition at the McClelland Gallery!
I was really proud with the work I had submitted (the box with the topographic landscape inside, from my last entry here and a map of my home town) but didn't expect to be considered as a finalist. I am a first year fine art student and really just need the practice putting together applications and writing artist statements. It's a nice feeling knowing that those few days of running around with little sleep actually paid off.

I've attached the other piece that will be in the exhibition, it's a map of my home town, Tumut.

Uni Project
This is one of my major projects for the semester. It's made from woodcut prints on paper and box board and is the topographic layout of my home town of Tumut. I want to write more about the process but I am about to go to the airport and get on a plane heading for Costa Rica! Adios!

In the beginning...
I've been wanting to create a blog for a while now but, as usual, there was always something else needing to be done. It's taken a frustrating uni assignment to get the ball rolling. So far all that's come of this is the confirmation that I am not a computer person... Give me a piece of paper any day! Here's hoping my computer skills improve soon, and quickly!
