New York - The Whitney Museum

Sherrie Levine: Mayhem

New York - Brooklyn Museum

My very rushed, and unprepared, visit to the Brooklyn Museum resulted in seeing a ridiculous amount of work, but not very thoroughly.
Of all the work I saw, the Eva Hesse exhibition Eva Hesse Spectres 1960 is what I think of when I remember my time at the Brooklyn Museum.

Eva Hesse, No title, 1960, oil on canvas, 36x36 inches

There's a much better photo, and information about the exhibition here.

I was also very excited to see a Kara Walker pieceBurning African Village Play Set with Big House and Lynching, 2006, painted laser cut steel.

You can see more images of this piece on the Brooklyn Museum website, here

Only Natural

So, I've officially submitted all my work to complete my 2nd year of uni. How happy am I to have the past 8 months behind me! It has been a year of low motivation, low energy, forced ideas and a whole lot of questioning what I'm doing. Despite all of that, I'm actually really happy with the 2 projects I've managed to completed.

I loved working with the fluro colours! It was such a nice change from the natural colours I'd spent the majority of the semester using. I had fun with these colours and can't wait to use them again. I'd originally wanted to use brighter colours found from nature, but the saturated, chemical feel of the fluro worked so much better.

I love that the colour printed on the back of the cutouts reflected onto the white wall. I wasn't expecting that to happen but it was a pleasant surprise on an otherwise hectic day of installing.

Relief

It's been too long since my last post! Argh!
My class is participating in an exchange folio and everyone has been frantically trying to gather their ideas and produce an edition of 24 prints in, what feels like, a very short timeframe. My print has changed so many times in the last couple of weeks but I'm finally on my way to getting this edition printed, just in time to be collated and distributed at the end of the week.
I've decided to relief print my copper plate. An idea given to me by my teacher and I'm so glad she suggested it! I love the effect, it's exactly what I wanted.

This is a detail of my print. Once I've finished it completely I'll post some more photos.
